Torquay U12s exceeded all expectations

2nd Best in Devon

Torquay U12s exceeded all expectations at the weekends Devon Rugby Festival held at Brixham Rugby Club.

The Torquay team who have been improving all season won all of their pool games to win a Quater/Semi final place.

The first team in their pool was Stonehouse Sharks from Plymouth. Torquay defended well and Jamie Blatchford and Jacob Brady scored the 2 tries that secured the first victory.
The second game was against local rivals Brixham. On the last 2 meetings Brixham beat Torquay, but the Torquay team were determined to change this. It was a well fought game but Torquay ended the game 21 – 7 winners.

Having won their pool they they then went on to play Honiton. Having only played Honiton once before several years ago they did not know what to expect. Within 2 minutes Torquay were 7 – 0 up. They kept the defence really tight and were soon the victors at 14 – 0.

They then faced Sidmouth for a place in the cup final. They managed again to get the first try and were soon leading 5 – 0. Sidmouth fought back very hard and managed to get a try and conversion meaning that for the first time Torquay during the festival Torquay were behind 5 – 7. With only minutes to go and a place in the final for the winners Torquay pulled out all of the stops and jacob scored a great try to finish the game 12 – 7.

In the final they faced Ivybridge. Unfortunately Torquay failed to score a try and lost the final game 19 – 0

It was a well earned 2nd place for Torquay.
