place in the first Devon Plate final thanks to a 45-14

The scoreline was clear-cut, but the game wasn't a
stroll in the park for the Cherries.

TORQUAY Athletic's worst fears came true as they were relegated out of South West One and could do nothing to save themselves from the drop.
The Tics completed their programme the previous Saturday when Brixham defeated them at the Recreation Ground, but remained one place clear of the drop zone.
Ivybridge, who were below the Tics on points difference, had a game in hand to play and knew a win or draw would reverse those positions.
A 27-12 win at St Mary's Old Boys, who were already relegated, saved Ivybridge's skins and sent the Tics down instead.
Mike McDonald, Torquay's director of rugby, said many at the club had already resigned themselves to the drop after the Brixham defeat. What matters know is making their stay in the Western Counties Division as brief as possible.
Top of the agenda is bringing in a new coach to replace Ben Cole, who announced last month he planned to stand down.
"I am hoping to reveal who the new coach is within a week to 10 days, but nothing is signed, sealed or delivered yet," said McDonald.
"The club needs a new face with new ideas to start driving us forward again.
"Western Countites is a tough division to get out of — which we know from our last stint there, which lasted three years.
"We had a more rounded side then than we have now, so no one thinks it is going to be easy bouncing straight back up again."
McDonald's unpaid appointment as director of rugby is for three years and he still has 12 months to run in post.
He accepts there are those at the club who would like to see him stand down early, but right now that is not on his agenda.
"There is a job that needs doing and I am keen to get on with it," said McDonald.Full details/Match REPORT can be read here...

Torquay's SW1 fate lies elsewhere after defeat

TORQUAY
Athletic's survival hopes in South West One (West) are
hanging by a thread following their 40-22 defeat to
Brixham on a shirtsleeved day at the Recreation Ground.
On the one day when the Tics really needed a favour in
other games, they didn't get anything that mattered.
Sidmouth beat a depleted Cullompton side 22-18 to make
themselves 100 per cent safe from the drop.
Chosen Hill went past The Tics on the strength of a
40-23 win away to doomed St Mary's Old Boys.
Fellow strugglers Ivbridge were pummelled 62-0 by
Newton Abbot, although that result was always on the
cards anyway.

What
it all means is Torquay can do nothing to save
themselves as they have completed their 26-match
programme. Ivybridge currently sit below in the third
relegation place. They will stay there if they lose
away to St Mary's this Saturday in their game in hand.
