Torquay 8-18 Newton Abbot

Torquay were bullied and battered by an All White XV that kept their noses just far enough ahead of their hosts to gain early Bay Bragging rights after this first local derby of the season. Torquay had much possession and territory, but failed to convert their many half chances. Newton on the other hand had a couple of sniffs of the line and took them both cleanly to bring a smile to the travelling contingent of a bumper crowd at the final whistle....

Torquay 32-8 Sidmouth

Coach Gary Willis was happy that the Tics improved as the 80 wore on, but he has equally seen early areas for improvement! The side can look forward to tough drills to reduce the turn-over rate, especially wider out. That said, the visitors were a good opening test in the 2008/9 League campaign and will surely hold their own, if they can secure enough possession. Torquay will be pleased that they never really looked in any bother though, and now look forward to their first away trip to Clevedon next weekend....

Torquay overcame a nervy and disjointed first half to finish the stronger side and make it 2 out of 2 - so far so good.
