Torquay know that this was a key match to concede, especially with St Ives and Newton winning, but nonetheless the Tics will seek solace in the fact that the patched-up and makeshift squad worked really hard for the whole 80, and came as close as 3 points in upsetting the League form book. However injury to John Arnold right at the start of the match will temper what can be taken from this cliff-hanger of a game....

The Tics ran in 9 tries as they bounced back from last week’s St Ives disappointment in some style at St Mary’s Expense at the Rec. Matt Jackson top scored with his boot and the tries were well distributed throughout the team, with some completely wow-ing the crowd who’d decided to defer watching the televised England match. Elsewhere the Colts had a fantastic last-gasp win in the National Cup vs well fancied Launceston 13-12. The Extras lost to Cullompton in an enjoyable away fixture.
St Ives 9-6 Torquay

The Tics were edged out in this ‘four pointer’ fixture and see St Ives join the Teams positioned below the top two all on 10 points each rather than enjoying some daylight between Torquay and the hosts who are immediately on our heels in the League table. The fact that the result was this close will be little consolation, other than to steel resolve to get back on track vs St Mary’s OB’s at the Rec next weekend. Please also note that on the same weekend (Sat 15th Nov) you can enjoy watching England v Australia with a sit down two-course meal and a glass of red or white wine for the bargain price of just £11.50. Sit down in the Clubhouse at 1.00pm, monies to be paid in advance to Sally. If you can’t manage next weekend, then you’ll be pleased to know that this fun event is being repeated for both the South Africa fixture 22nd November and New Zealand 29th November.

Torquay’s consistent changes coupled with challenging cold and wet conditions meant that this game was two points gladly taken and move on to St Ives away next weekend. It certainly did little to warm the spectators despite the best efforts of both teams to fling the ball around...
