As expected the weather played a part in this result on Saturday. Torquay had to play up a slope and against a strong wind in the first half and Tavistock made life very difficult for Torquay using the elements to pin Torquay in their own half for the majority of it.
This meant Torquay had to work very hard and defend in numbers, which is exactly what they did. Their only respite from the barrage of high kicks and pick and drives from a large Tavistock pack, was on 15 mins. Good defensive pressure from Torquay's own half caused Tavistock to lose posetion and Torquay capitalised on this when their forwards pounced on the lose ball and drove up the field going through four fazes of recycling before good hands from the backs enabled Tom Harris to wrong foot the defence to go over. No Conversion.
The remaining part of the first half continued as it started with Torquay having to soak up the pressure. Tavistock were eventually rewarded for their hard work on 34 mins with a penalty kick.
The second half enabled Torquay to use the elements and they started with a bang. Two high kicks early on enabled Tom Harris and Aaron Hern to collect and sprint to the line for try's on 3 and 8 mins, both converted by Aaron Graham.
The rest of the game continued in the same manor with Tavistock holding on without conceding further.
The conditions made it hard for both teams but both worked hard and battled well to make it a good game.
