Nuneaton Colts 35 vs Torquay Colts 20 National Cup Quarter Finals

The young Tics to their credit battled right to the end and refused to give up. The Nuns had a well drilled side who were very quick to the breakdown and had some very good backs to finish their moves off.

We had a great day out no one let themselves down and the players were a credit to their club.  Well done for this achievement.

Nuneaton Colts 35 vs Torquay Colts 20

As expected Nuneaton proved to be a little too good for Torquay to cope with on a dull windy Saturday afternoon.

Although the team left early it was a long four hour journey that was always going to prove difficult to get out of their system. Nuneaton to their credit started as you would expect, started well and came at Torquay quickly and at pace. Torquay did use the wind well and pinned Nuneaton back in the 22 initially. It was Nuneaton pressure that led to the first points of the afternoon as a dropped pass from the Torquay backs led to a pick up and race to the line for Nuneaton's Ben Gilbert. Conversion good Tom Short.

The nuns second try came from outside and good handling from a very slick Nuneaton back line. There powerful wingman Bret Chatwin showing his pace as he rounded the Torquay defence. No conversion.

Torquay did respond from the restart after the Nuns failed to clear their lines that resulted in a penalty in front of the posts. Aaron de young slotted the kick over.

Nuns came back once again with their backs following a scrum on the Torquay 22 and once again wingman Brett Chatwin showing his great pace and finishing skill for his second. No conversion.

Torquay did finish the half with some spirit that allowed them to be awarded a penalty that De young kicked. 17-6

Nuns continued their pressure into the second half that again forced Torquay into errors and not clearing their line or making use of a strong cross field wind. Nuns pack capitalised on this and after only 5 mins Nuns had scored another converted try through Jamie Ashley.

The Nuns number 10 did make full use of the wind and continually placed the ball back down into the TICS 22. He also hit Torquay with a drop goal on 10 mins, stretching the Nuns lead away.

Torquay to their credit continued to compete and their forwards battled their way back into the game. On 15 mins an unusual mistake from the Nuns backs enabled Tom Harris to collect the ball, go round two players on his way to the try line. Aaron de young converted. 27-13

The Nuns came back again and further forward pressure  led to the ball going wide again for Dan Elkerton to score. No conversion.

Torquay refused to give up hope and from a scrum in the nuns 22 Henry Raby went blind to off load to Aaron Graham to beat his man to score. De Young with the conversion.

The Nuns did have the last say in the game as the number 10 Short slotted a penalty on 32 mins.
