Torquay Colts Tour de Rennes

The first half was a fairly even contest with both sides trying their best to produce some running rugby. In such wet conditions the ball often went to ground and mistakes were made.

The weekend was a great success, Renne Rugby club made us feel very welcome and looked after us well.
We played their full side on Saturday at the velodrome in Renne. They had a very strong side that were quick to the breakdown and out side in the backs. Torquay played really well in the first half and were only trailing 5-6 at the break. In particular George Mills and Will Bennett played outstanding in defence.
The second half was more difficult for Torquay as they made 10 changes and lost Jo Ward and Liam McCarthy, who both ended up in Hospital. Unfortunately Jo clashed heads with one of his own players and fractured an eye socket and Liam badly pulled his groin.
This took the edge off a hard working Torquay side who eventually went down 20 - 5, following three tries from Renne.
Jo had to spend the night in hospital but was released the next day.
On the Sunday in what was terrible wet windy conditions Renne managed to turn out enough players so that we could play a 10 aside tournament. Despite the weather it turned out to be a great success with Torquay coming out on top. In the conditions and in good spirit there was some really good rugby played.
Overall the weekend proved to be just what Torquay Colts needed in the run up for the end of the season, the players yet again were a credit to their club and the weekend was brilliant fun.
