Wiveliscombe 12 vs Torquay Colts 10

This was just the test Torquay needed before this weekends semi final Devon colts cup match against Crediton.

Wiveliscombe were well drilled, very determined and put Torquay under allot of pressure that forced them to make many errors that in the end lost them the game.

The first half started evenly enough with both sides making chances for themselves and it was Torquay that scored first on 14 mins. Torquay producing some good open play by the forwards enabling the backs to have an overlap that Arren Graham made the most of to score out wide. Conversion missed.

The teams continued to battle on a fairly even basis but on 27 mins a strong forward drive took Wivvy up the field to end in a try . Conversion missed. The rest of the half continued in the same vein.

The second half wivvy placed more pressure on the TICS and started to win more possession and even turned over some of Torquay's ball. This in it self put more pressure on the TICS who seemed unable to play their way out of their own half.

As usual Torquay's defence held strong and on 27 mins managed to break out of their own half by a good run from Arran Hearn who was able to off load to Tom Harris who went around the full back to score. Conversion was missed.

Wivvy came back strongly and the remainder of the half was played in Torquay's end. Torquay seemed unable to clear their line and continued to miss touch with clearance kicks. Torquay thought they had done enough when the ref called last play. It was a five meter scrum, Torquay put in but again Wivvy put pressure on them. Torquay managed to fumble the ball over their own try line for a Wivvy player to pounce and score. The conversion was good and Wivvy took the win.

The semi final will be played at Crediton this Sunday. The kick off time will be 5 o'clock. Torquay have requested this as they have four players away skiing and depending on flight times may get back for the game. They will also be without the try scoring Tom Harris who is also away on holiday. With two other players having to work it has not turned out to be the best weekend to play a semi final. This will really test the resilience of the Torquay side, who face a very strong Crediton side who have only lost three games in their league this season.
