This
game proved to be a disappointing end to what has
been an excellent season for the young Tics. Despite
some missing players Torquay battled hard against a
very large well drilled Crediton side, who on
reflection deserved their win.
Crediton
Colts 13 vs Torquay Colts 3
Crediton started the first half with a clear game plan in mind. They used their possession well by kicking down the touch line, putting pressure on the clearing kicks and using their own line out to set up a rolling maul. Their forwards were well rehearsed in this type of rugby and Torquay found it virtually impossible to maintain any possession.
Crediton used this well and scored their first try by using this exact method. Conversion missed. Torquay came back with a penalty kick but shortly after conceded a penalty for Crediton to finish the half 8-3 up.
The second half started in the sane manor and it wasn't to long for Crediton to complete another rolling maul to score their second try. Conversion missed.
Torquay then compounded there problems by George Mills being yellow carded for getting offside in a ruck. This meant a tough ten mins for Torquay but they managed to hold it together. Torquay did try to open the game up in the last twenty mins as they stepped up the pressure. Trying to run the ball and keep it away from the Crediton pack was the only way Torquay were going to get back in to the game.
Torquay battled away at the Credit line but the Crediton defence to their credit held strong.
Crediton were worthy winners and used their game plan well. We would wish them well in the final in two weeks against Exeter.
