Quins face stiffest test yet! vs Cullumpton

Coming into the game the Quins remained unbeaten since last season and were yet to face any true stern tests, Bideford and Okehampton in recent weeks were crucial warm ups for this top of the table clash.

Without a couple of injured regulars in including myself the starting line up still looked as strong as ever, an indication of how far the Quins have progressed from being a social club xv to the best side in the bay!

The game started off badly with Cully looking sharp, strong, direct and pacey in the 3's and this told when they took an early 5 nil lead. Cully stepped up through the gears and looked like stamping their authority on the game, but this was only down to some poor tackling and slow support play from the Quins. This didnt last long though with the Quins drawing level at 5 all (apologies I dont know who scored). Carty in the centre, the mercurial Tom Bovey and skipper Nev Carr all began making inrodes into the opposition defence and a clear try opportunity was disallowed after the ref sporting Daffid from little britains costume, spotted a forward pass collected by Carthorse, I think it may have been shock that Carty caught the ball which led to the referee blowing his whistle as there was no way it wa forward!

The game was a much tighter affair after this with both sides choosing to kick alot, Cully, with their inspirational number 13 who looked much better than a 2nd team player, started to look sharp again and soon took the lead going 12-5 up. The 2nd half was all Quins, Cully barely able to escape their 22 and the pressure told when the Quins rolled over under the posts after a heavy onslaught on the Cully try line, Lewis White converted to draw the scores level.

More Quins pressure was beginning to take its toll with Cully infringing regularly and after a number of penalties 5 10 metres out being quickly taken and the Quins still unable to take the lead the decision was taken to take 3 points from another penalty.

White obliged and the Quins took the lead, and they didnt let it slip!! More destruction from the likes of George at 7, The Bear on occasions, Carty until some scratched his marble, and Tommy 2 pints Winfield was sure to take its toll on a now weary Cullompton defence and the Quins finished the game off with 2 mins to go with a try out wide to cap a hard fought, richly deserved victory.

So the Mighty Quins wagon rolls on, this was out toughest opposition for the last 2-3 seasons and they were dealt with effectively, who knows where it will end? another league championship and confirmation of the quins supremacy!

The funniest part of the game came when Kev the Bear King was forced from the field after being poked in the eye, upon removing his shirt for a teammate and trotting back across the field im sure I heard Sauras start singing the baywatch theme tune, Pammy has nothing on the Bear hahaha.

The Quins were to strong for Codheads 3rds in this merit table game. Our first team coach Drew Powell played due to lack of numbers in the Quins squad, this was down to many of the boys going to France.

We had Burty normally a hooker on the wing and he darted down the touchline to score two tries, Rob who normally plays in the backrow in the centre scoring a try. I think we had twelve forwards playing in the side. The final score was Quins 42 - Battered Codheads 5.

well well well.....the mighty Quins wagon rolls on!! still undefeated but yet to be tested after todays 99-5 victory!!! yes thats 99!! and if Lewis or myself had our proper kicking boots on, or carty learnt to catch then the 100 point barrier would have been crushed!

No idea who scored the tries but im sure Berty got one, Matt Clarke got a couple, Lewis White with 3 or 4 and James "sterling mortlock" Milton bagged a few too along with a 5 pointer for myself, to go along with some shared kicking duties of 1out of 1 for the mercurial Jack Berry, 1 out of 4 for Lewis and 5 from 10 for myself (I think) apologies for anyone I have missed out!

Stand out performances I felt were Paul Clarke, instrumental in attack and defence, Berty at hooker capped out with a deserved try, Lewis with some fine snipeing runs, Paul who at no7 was absoutley everywhere!myself just because im writing this and a fair few of the othr boys too because im now bored with writing

Well done boys, the tough games start next week!!

Well done boys, our first league match of the season and our first league victory, lets not be fooled into thinking withycombe will be setting the standard for this league though, they had 1 or 2 good players but were way below the standard I personally expected. I think the score was 40-22?? thats 22 points they didnt deserve but we gave them due to some poor defending and bickering, but yet again, our attacking play was awesome with our support play being the most impressive feature as well as a trademark brawl from myself (which I hasten to add was all because I stole the ball on the floor which he took exception too!!). As i have said before we all need to start making it to training, doing some fitness and ball work as a club then splitting into 1sts 2nds and 3rds to do our game related work.
Good work lads, lets keep it up.

Well done boys, yet another scintilating performance from the Mighty Quins, champagne rugby at its finest, but we all know it was one of the weaker teams we are likely to face. What was important was the clean sheet and low penalty count, thats something we need to build on, especially at Fortress Quin. Lets keep the good work going, keep working on our defence as our attack is awesome and lets all get to training this week and start putting some moves together.
