EXTRAS CONTINUE WINNING START TO SEASON

Another good win against Tiverton on Sat, started well against a well organised strong Tivy side who have only  had 1 narrow defeat this season. Just about every player on the park sat could do a job for the first team, early tries from james Murrey and Tony McCarthy 2 trys got us into a comfortable early lead, the game plan worked well with the forwards and backs linking up nicely. The support play was superb, we led 29-0 at half time. Second half Tivy changed their tactics and kept the ball in the forwards giving them an early try. The players showed character and replied with another good backs try through Richard Wood. We couldn't seem to get the momentum we had in the first half and Tivy got over the line again. We stepped it up and scored twice one through the hard working forwards and another from Rob Boules on the wing. Over all good win 39-12 Tony mc converting 5. Back row had an exceptional game with dog work from Matt Lyle at 7 Dan williams at 8, and newly back to the club Jason Marshall at 6 who had a great first game back.

EXTRAS CONTINUE WINNING START TO SEASON

11:00 - 09 October 2007

Defending champions Torquay Extras continued their winning start in the Devon Merit Table wth a 39-12 win over visiting Tiverton. Early tries from James Murray and Tony McCarthy (2) put Torquay into an early lead. The Tics stuck to the game plan, with the forwards and backs linking up well and by half time were 29-0 up.
The Torquay back row of Matt Lyle, Dan Williams and Jason Marshall showed up particularly well in the forward exchanges.

Tiverton changed their tactics in the second half, keeping the ball tight in the forwards, and pulled a try back.

Torquay responded with a try from Richard Wood, but the momentum of the first half eluded them and Tiverton pulled another try back.

Torquay stepped up a gear as the clock ran down and conjured up two tries, one credited to the forwards and another to wing Rob Boles. Tony McCarthy popped over five conversions for the Extras.

Player-manager Fletcher Larkin said it was a good win over a strong side that had only lost once previously this season.

He added: "Just about every Torquay player on the park could do a job for the first team."
