Andy Knight named as First XV Captain for 2008/9
Andy Knight Confirmed as First XV Skipper.

Andy leads from the front and will be a popular
choice as successor to Ben Passenger who stepped down
last year after a long and successful tenure.
TORQUAY
Athletic have appointed Andy Knight as their new
captain for the season ahead.
The Tics had to find a new skipper this term after
long-serving Ben Passenger stood down after five
years in the job.
Knight was put in charge for the friendly game
against Exmouth last Saturday and impressed the
club's decision makers sufficiently to earn the job
on a full time basis.
The Tics final non-league friendly takes place at the
Recreation Ground tomorrow when Westcountry Warriors,
who used to be known as Plymouth Albion Extras, are
the visitors
For Torquay supporters it is the first chance to have
a look at some of the new players who have flocked to
the club during the close season.

Unusually,
there has been an influx of players from arch rivals
Brixham, led by back-row bruiser Chris Dorling.
Hooker Mike Beeson, flanker Jon Lamsin and centre
Phil Maddick have all crossed the Bay with Dorling.
Tom Winfield, who quit Torquay for Brixham last
season, has returned.
Albion will be a stiff test for Torquay, which is no
bad thing with the league opener against Sidmouth
just a week away. They could run into Namibian World
Cup prop Jane DuToit, who is poised to sign for
Plymouth and likely to get a run-out just to stretch
his legs.
Torquay lost 23-18 last time out to Exmouth, although
player-coach Ben Cole was reasonably satisfied with
the way things went.
"For our first competitive fixture we showed signs of
promise, against a fairly well organised side that
have played three fixtures already," said Cole.
"However, it was a game we could have won, and there
were defensive lapses that will need addressing."
