Tics win bloody Spartan war

Saturday 17th February 2007 Spartans (SW) 18-30 Torquay

Torquay scorers: tries- Matt Allanson, Matt Jackson, Nick Gill, penalty try cons- MattJackson 2 pens- Matt Jackson 2
This was a disappointing game for all rugby lovers. It was evident from early on that some players on the field had a different agenda from the rest. In a game that was almost impossible to referee, Spartans somehow managed to finish the game with only 1 player having been sent off. The score was 18 - 3 at half time to Torquay with Matt Allanson's first league try a highlight, the second score was a penalty try as the Tics went for a push over, the home no.8 came round and took the ball from Ben Cole's feet. After a scrappy first half the second half degenerated further and the home side scored 10 points to bring the scores closer. At this point Ben Cole had to leave the field having taken excessive punishment to be replaced by Colt John Woodhead, who performed bravely in the circumstances. Late tries by Matt Jackson and nick Gill put a fairer reflection on the final score. everyone who had travelled was glad to hear the final whistle.
