Torquay’s youngsters played with guile and gusto in this highly entertaining fixture at the Rec. In bitingly cold conditions the Tics hinted at a promising New Year and pushed a strong Launceston side hard for the whole 80 minutes. Luke Bettesworth was assured at Fly-half, and Mike Beeson was busy all over the park. Australian Joe Azercurk also had his strongest game for the First XV to date. It was still a loss, but the crowd, players and coaching staff were all certainly upbeat as the final whistle blew. With the Tics realistically out of League contention, and without the pressure of relegation this season, perhaps the way forward is to continue to blood the new boys and up comings - certainly if this showing is anything to go on, that would be a popular move.
