NEWSLETTER NO.51

Freddie’s return to the Rec after his Hip Operation when the Tic’s played Brixham
on 31 January 2009

Dear Members

This is the first newsletter of 2009 and I would like to remind you that there will be a Tic’s Past Players’ Reunion Buffet Lunch on Saturday, 4 April 2009 from 12.30pm onwards– when the Tic’s play Paignton. As usual your spouses/partners are welcome to come as well. Hope you can make it.

The Volunteers from the Tic’s Past Players i.e Dave Robinson, Stan Foster, Ian Redfern and Ralph Spray are doing a tremendous job raising money for the Club on the match day draws. This will be a major contribution towards the refitting of the bar and kitchen in the clubhouse. Well done lads!!

At a recent Committee meeting, Dave Robinson was voted in as Chairman of the Tic’s Past Players’ Association and would like to say a few words:-

“You may know me as one of the men who stands at the gate with Stan Foster and Ian Redfern on Match Days, asking you for £1 for draw tickets, and most of you take great delight in telling me you will never win!!

I started my Tic’s life with the “A” Team at Steps Cross and played with the Quins under Harry Fry. I also played a few 1
st Team games – the first game being at Redruth before going into the Air Force.

The Appeal:
It has been a very expensive year for the Tic’s with the new lease, work on the ground, bar refurbishment, leak in the grandstand roof and a kitchen extension.

The Main Club Committee is working hard to get a 40 year lease and have joined forces with the Cricket and Bowling Clubs. They have brought in a company called “Sports Solutions” who have already helped many soccer clubs in the past. We hope that they can help us to secure crucial funding from the.National Lottery and the English RFU Funding Committee.

If anyone would like to make a donation towards this I am sure that the main club would appreciate it.
You can send cheques made payable to “Torquay Athletic RFC” via Pat Godfrey, Secretary of the Tic’s
Past Players Association, Grenville, Hampton Avenue, Torquay, TQ1 3LA who in turn will forward them onto the Main Club”.

For your information all the recent Newsletters are now on the Tic’s website
www.torquayrugby.co.uk

It was agreed at the last committee meeting that we would now revert back to an AGM to aid better communication and therefore keeping in touch with members on a more regular basis.

Best wishes to you all
