A good win to start the season it was a close nip and tuck game. Newton opened the scoring with a penalty which seemed to be a problem throughout the game with the Quins giving away too many unnecessary penalties fortunately Newton failed to capitalize on this The Quins opened their scoring five minutes into the second half with a try from Nev Carr, George went over the line to score a try 15 minutes latter and a third try was scored by Clint all players put on a good show and Hugh Brookman, Ewan Murray liam ? and Stu Collier played very well. Morts was exceptional the not scoring a try that was there for the taking. Jason came off in the first half having chipped his nail varnish and Cleggy came on to beef up an already hefty pack 45mins in to promptly do a splashdown on a newton centre something the centre got up from remarkably quickly.jack Kieler had a good game apart from kicking the the conversions where he had two left feet, but having seen him dance that came as no surprise to anybody. The only thing missing was that being the first game of the season we didn`t do a victory tour of the Newton abbot pubs. All in all a good win made better by the fact that Torquay 2nds also beat Newton seconds and to rub salt in the wound Torquay Colts beat Newton Colts.
